Djdade (DJ) Denson, I am a Milwaukee Native and alumni of The University School of Milwaukee Class of 2014. After Graduating from USM, I was recruited to run Track and Field at Marquette University, where I participated in the Triple Jump, Long Jump, High Jump & 60 m dash. Beginning at Marquette I enrolled as an undecided Math Major and eventually worked my way into the College of Engineering. While in the College of Engineering I studied Environmental Engineering with a specialty in water and civil engineering. At Marquette, I joined the National Society of Black Engineers, Engineers without Boarders, won 3 Big East championships, conducted experiments on behalf of the NSF and founded an organization to teach students how to trade in the Foreign Exchange Market. I graduated from Marquette in 2019, with an Environmental Engineering degree and a drive to do more for the city of Milwaukee. That lead me to become a project manager for Hunzinger Construction. At Hunzinger, I had the opportunity to build and manage the Komatsu International Headquarters, the American Family Amphitheater on the Summerfest Grounds and even a few projects at USM. After gaining construction management experience at Hunzinger. I ventured back to the neighborhood I grew up in and shifted my focus to uplifting and collaboration with community and local business owners. Currently, I own and operate a full service restaurant in the heart of Milwaukee named: Coffee Makes You Black, where we serve the community in a multitude of ways besides delicious food.
